Apple Acquires a Nigerian "Chinedu Echeruo" HotSpot.com For $1 Billion

Apple has acquired Chinedu Echeruo’s HopStop.com, The Wall Street Journal’s publication, AllThingsDigital reports. Founded in 2005, HopStop.com makes mobile applications for both iOS and Android that covers over 300 cities and that helps people get directions or find nearby subway stations and bus stops. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed as at the time of this publication.

HopStop has oft been compared to Israel’s Waze which was recently acquired by Google for $1 billion. The move is seen as Apple’s plan to bolster its map offering especially given Google’s recent acquisition of Waze.

A serial entrepreneur, Chinedu Echeruo grew up in Eastern Nigeria and attended Kings College, Lagos. He attended Syracuse University and the Harvard Business School in the United States and founded HopStop.com after working for several years in the Mergers & Acquisitions and Leveraged Finance groups of J.P Morgan Chase where he was involved in a broad range of M&A, Financing and Private Equity transactions. He also worked at AM Investment Partners, a $500 million volatility-driven convertible bond arbitrage hedge fund.

He founded and raised nearly $8 million for his two U.S based internet companies; Hopstop.com and Tripology.com. Tripology.com was acquired in 2010 by American travel and navigation information company, Rand McNally. He was named Black Enterprise Magazine’s Small Business Innovator of the year and listed in the magazine’s Top 40 under 40 and is currently a partner and head of the Principal Investing group at Constant Capital, a West Africa based investment bank.

Prince William and Kate Middleton Shows Baby to the World

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge emerge from hospital to show off the royal baby for the first time. Walking out with their baby to cheers from well wishers, the Duchess said it was "a special time for any parent". Prince William said they were "still working on a name". The couple then went back inside the private Lindo Wing and placed their son in a car seat. A few minutes later they came outside again and the duke drove his family home to Kensington Palace. Speaking to reporters, the couple both said the experience was "very emotional".
They appeared relaxed and smiled broadly in front of the world's media as they walked out on to steps of the hospital in front of a mass of photographers.William later held his son and walked forward with his wife to speak to reporters. He said: "He's got a good pair of lungs on him, that's for sure. He's a big boy, he's quite heavy. We are still working on a name so we will have that as soon as we can." He added: "It's the first time we have seen him really so we are having a proper chance to catch up." The Duchess, smiling as she held her son, said: "It's such a special time. I think any parent will know what this feeling feels like."
Speaking to the waiting crowd, Prince William said: "I'll remind him of his tardiness when he's a bit older. "I know how long you've all been standing here so hopefully the hospital and you guys can all go back to normal now and we can go and look after him."They also revealed William had done the first nappy change.

Royal Baby: The Duchess of Cambridge Kate and Prince William Welcome a Baby Boy

News reaching me now, states that Kate Middleton (Duchess of Cambridge) just gave birth to a bouncing baby boy...yipppieeeeee. The baby weighed 8lbs 6oz and was born at 4.24pm, the palace said. "Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight," Kensington Palace said in a statement. "The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.......Congratulations to them both. Kelly Rowland Rescued From Boat Lost at Sea.

Kelly Rowland was among a group of passengers who had to be rescued from a private boat after the vessel got lost at sea. The R&B star was on board a rented boat that was following a commercial-whale watching vessel when the captain lost sight of the boat in front and became disorientated. The Coast Guard was alerted and a commercial towboat operator sent to escort the private vessel back to shore. Rowland and her fellow passengers were taken to Provincetown, at the tip of Cape Cod, in Massachusetts. TowBoat US Provincetown said on its Facebook page that the boat was 33 miles (53km) north of Provincetown.

Royal Baby Watch: Kate Middleton is in Labour

The Duchess of Cambridge is in labour and has been admitted to St Mary's Hospital in London, a statement from Kensington Palace says. The BBC's Nicholas Witchell says that the Duchess is in the "early stages" of labour, and that she was brought to the hospital by car.

Glee Star 'Cory Monteith Found Dead in His Hotel Room...

GOSH!!! According to a report on TMZ, Cory Monteith -- who famously played Finn Hudson on the TV show "Glee" -- died earlier today in Vancouver. According to police in Vancouver the actor was found dead in his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel around noon today after staffers went to check on him when he didn't check out on time. We're told he was "clearly deceased" when police arrived on the scene. Cops say he was in the room last night with some friends before the group hit the town ... and he came back early this morning alone. No foul play is suspected ... and cops say "it was not immediately apparent" what caused his death. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. Monteith voluntarily checked himself into a treatment center back in April, admitting he had substance abuse issues. It was his second time in treatment.

Pope Francis Set to Target Sexual Violence Against Children in The Vatican

According to a report on NBCNews, Pope Francis, acting to end years of scandals damaging the Catholic Church, overhauled Vatican law on Thursday to specify sexual violence against children as a crime and impose tough penalties for staff who leak confidential Vatican information. Issuing a “Motu Proprio,” a decree of his own initiative, Francis also said he would renew the Holy See’s commitment to international conventions against organized crime and terrorism.

Under the changes, sexual violence and sexual acts with children, child prostitution and child pornography are cited in a broader definition of crimes against minors and punishable by up to 12 years in prison, a Vatican document showed. Francis, who succeeded Pope Benedict in March, inherited a Church struggling to restore its credibility after a spate of scandals including the molestation of children by priests in a number of countries and an investigation into suspected money-laundering at the Vatican’s bank.

In June Francis set up a special commission of inquiry to reform the bank, seeking to get to grips with an institution that has embarrassed the church. The group held its first meeting on Thursday with the pope attending, according to the Vatican newspaper Osservatore Romano.

A Nigerian Man Arrested For Faking Marriage to a UK Woman to Escape Deportation.

Jayeola Abiola is not so much a hopeless romantic, as he is a man trying to escape extradition back to his home country. Lauryn Hill Checks Into Prison For Tax Invasion

Lauryn Hill has just reported to federal prison in Connecticut, where she will begin her 3 month sentence for tax evasion, TMZ reports. The former Fugees singer was booked into the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury at 11:15 AM EST. We're told the FCI is a "minimum security type facility" where inmates live in "barracks type" housing. We're also told 38-year-old Hill will not be isolated in the facility -- and will be housed with the general population. As we previously reported, Hill pled guilty last year to three counts of tax evasion for failing to file returns on $1.8 million she earned from 2005 to 2007.

Dear Belarich,
I broke up with my ex well over a year ago; and we are both in our 20’s. It wasn’t a messy break up; we basically drifted apart and went our separate ways. One of the reasons I started to drift away from him was that while he pursued me, he went above and beyond to get my attention and “make me his.” About 7 months after he “got” me, his efforts to “keep me” began to slack off to the point where I started to feel like perhaps he was seeing someone else. I didn’t really care about that, though, because by this point, I wanted him to leave me alone (you’ll understand why in a minute), so I let the drifting apart continue and we eventually stopped contacting each other totally.
Well, lo and behold, he’s started calling/texting me again. After not responding back at first, I decided to say hi via text because honestly, he’s a nice guy, we had loads of fun together (except for the problem I’m about to mention) and I wouldn’t mind us hanging out on a platonic level, but he wants more and here’s where the problem comes in.
During the time we were together, his sex was WACK. And I hate to say it like that, but it is what it is. When we talked before dating, I hadn’t been with anyone sexually in over a year, so by the time we had dated for about 2 months, my glands were ready to see if what he kept talking about in regard to his skills was true, and oh my goodness!!! I tried introducing things into the mix–nothing freaky because I just wanted to see if he was at least good with the basics. He was fine with me showing him how to keep me “revved up”, but after that, I didn’t expect to have to show him all of the time, but that’s what it turned into. Everything else between us was alright; not perfect, of course, but I couldn’t get past this issue right here because it seemed like the sex part of the relationship was more for his pleasure and not for both of us.
Now that he’s starting to bark up my tree again, I want to relay to him that we will not be dating like that again and why. Interesting! My question to you is if you wanted him to leave you alone, then why did you answer his text? Why did you start this communication up with him again? If you weren’t friends before you started dating, then why do you think you can be ‘platonic’ friends now? That doesn’t make sense. It was a 7-month relationship that fizzled out faster than it started.

Michelle Obama Calls The White House "A Really Nice Prison"

According to the NYPost, the first lady calls the White House a “really nice prison.” Michelle Obama shared her feelings with her predecessor, Laura Bush, in Tanzania after ABC moderator Cokie Roberts noted that the nation’s first first lady, Martha Washington, likened her role to that of a “state prisoner.” There are prison elements to it,” Mrs. Obama conceded.

“But with a chef,” Mrs. Bush interjected. “I always joke that we have probably the best jobs in the world because . . . our husbands, who have to react and respond to crisis on a minute-to-minute basis, they come into office with a wonderful, profound agenda, and then they’re faced with reality,” she said. “On the other hand, we can work on what we’re passionate about.”

“You can’t complain,” Mrs. Obama agreed. “But there are definitely elements that are confining.”

She joked that, as their husbands engage in crucial world affairs, “people are sorting through our shoes and our hair . . . whether we cut it or not.” Their wives spoke at a new event, the African First Ladies Summit, which attracted 10 first ladies from the continent. A source confirms to E! News exclusively that the Scandal star is dating San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. His manager Mark Holden, of Zero Gravity Management, is not able to confirm or deny the relationship. Meanwhile, Washington's rep tells E! News that "we don't comment on our client's personal life."Over the years, the 36-year-old actress has kept her private life, well, private following her 2007 breakup with fiancé David Moscow, the actor who played the young Tom Hanks in Big.

As for Asomugha, the 31-year-old NFL star played with the Oakland Raiders for eight seasons and the Philadelphia Eagles for two before signing with the 49ers in April. He, too, has a little acting experience under his helmet belt, having appeared on The Game, Friday Night Lights and Leverage.

Dear Belarich: 4 Months Ago My Friend Died in Labour Now I Want Her Husband

Dear Belarich,Two years ago, I met this incredible young lady, and let’s just call her ‘Cee’. We became friends and got along really well. She met this amazing guy and they decided to get married. Cee made me her maid of honor on her wedding day. Things were really good, and then she became pregnant mid last year. Unfortunately, she died in March this year as she was giving birth. She didn’t even get the chance to see her son, but fortunately the baby survived.
Now, here is the story: I have been hanging around the husband a lot, and on a friendship basis. He has been really nice to me, and I think I’m developing feelings for him. I think about him all the time, and I’m beginning to see him in a new light. He is so nice, and would actually make perfect husband material. I cannot see myself with any other man except for him. But, the other problem is he still talks about his wife a lot, maybe it’s because it’s just been four months. But, I have been dropping hints of interest and he is not even noticing. I also believe I can be a good mother to the child.
From reading your blogs, you always state that going after your friend’s man is a Big NO-NO. But, what if she is dead! Is it still a Big NO-NO?

I am so sorry to hear about your friend’s death. That is truly unfortunate and a sad story. Wow! She didn’t even get a chance to see her son. That is truly heartbreaking and sad. But, girl, you don’t waste any time do you? LMBAO! Your friend has been dead all of four months and you’re already making moves on her husband. Got damn!!!Uhm, here’s the thing, sweetie, the man just lost his wife. I’m certain that he is not thinking about you or any other woman. The man is grieving. He just lost his wife four months ago! Damn! Can you at least give him some time to adjust to life without his wife, and being a widower? It’s really sad that your friend, his dead wife, is barely in the damn ground and you’re already trying to get in his bed, and replace her. WOW! You are a damn trip!

The sad part about your letter is that you never once stated that you were grieving, upset, or mourning your friend. You letter is all about her husband, and your attempts of trying to get with him. Why Are You Single??!

Today, I was going through some possible topics for the TheKorroShow tonight and I came across this article by Television writer, black woman and memoirist Tracy McMillan, title Why Are You Single. The thrice-married (currently single) McMillan actually has some pretty solid things to say in her piece. Here’s a gem:

 “The bottom line is that marriage is just a long-term opportunity to practice loving someone even when they don’t deserve it. “ That’s a keeper right there. Marriage is not easy. It is not a matter of reliving the joy of your wedding day everyday for the rest of your lives. It’s work. Sometimes fun work, but work nonetheless. But for single women (especially black women), who are constantly bombarded with articles telling them why they are single or why their chances of getting married are slim to none, it gets tiresome, draining. Sometimes women are single because heck, they just want to be single. Not every woman has a goal of getting hitched. And sometimes there are other reasons for being single like you only date black men and you live in a town that has virtually none. Maybe you have financial or academic goals you want to reach before you jump the broom. There are many possible reasons as to why a woman is single".

I thought it would be good to ask you the question that everyone seems to want to answer on your behalf. Why are YOU single? Do you have the desire to get married one day?

“What happened in Steubenville was a real shock for me. I was deeply saddened. For someone to be raped, and at only sixteen, is such a horrible tragedy! For both families involved – that of the rape victim and of the accused. I am currently reaching out to the girl’s family to let her know that I am deeply sorry for what was written in the Rolling Stone article. What was written – what I supposedly said – is insensitive and hurtful, and I by no means would say or insinuate that she was at all to blame. I have fought all of my career for women’s equality, women’s equal rights, respect in their fields – anything I could do to support women I have done. My prayers and support always goes out to the rape victim. In this case, most especially, to an innocent sixteen year old child.”

I’m not blaming the girl, but if you’re a 16-year-old and you’re drunk like that, your parents should teach you—don’t take drinks from other people. She’s 16, why was she that drunk where she doesn’t remember? It could have been much worse. She’s lucky. Obviously I don’t know, maybe she wasn’t a virgin, but she shouldn’t have put herself in that position, unless they slipped her something, then that’s different."

The American Medical Association Labeled Obesity a Disease.

One word could have a big impact on the way doctors treat obesity in the United States. The American Medical Association has adopted a new policy that officially labels obesity as a disease “requiring a range of medical interventions to advance obesity treatment and prevention,” according to an AMA statement. The physicians’ group voted to approve the obesity policy, among others, on Tuesday during its annual meeting in Chicago.

The U.S. obesity rate increased almost 50% between 1997 and 2012, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Today, nearly 30% of American adults are considered obese, and the problem is almost as prevalent in kids. Childhood obesity has more than doubled in the past 30 years, the CDC says. Obesity for adults is defined as having a body mass index, or BMI, of 30 or higher. Canadian Model Who Earlier Claimed She Slept With Kanye West Now Says it Was a Lie.

Canadian model Leyla Ghobadi, who sold her story claiming she had an affair with Kanye West while he was dating Kim Kardashian, has now revealed she had trysts with the rapper before he was with the now pregnant reality starlet.

According to a new report in the UK’s Sun, Ghobadi appears to be backtracking on her original tale, printed in Star magazine Wednesday.

“I was introduced to him at the Montreal concert. We met backstage as I knew members of his band. We ended up having sex at the Thompson Hotel,” 

She told the The Sun in a recent interview, contradicting her prior claim that the affair began last summer in Atlantic City when West picked her out of a crowd at his concert where Kardashian happened to be sitting in the VIP section at the same show.

“He then flew some friends and I out to Toronto for his two concerts in the next two days. We had sex again there. This was all before Kim Kardashian and he never spoke about her. But what I do know is that Kanye is a Romeo — he can never be trusted.”

Ghobadi had first been quoted saying that West did in fact discuss his girlfriend with her when they allegedly slept together after his July 2012 concert. Star also alleged that West, 36, tried to get in touch with the brunette through one of his bodyguards as recently as last week. However, Ghobadi responded: “I can’t believe all this publicity — I’m having anxiety attacks. I’ve been out with other singers and never kissed and told. I’m not starting now.”

“I’m not the type to talk about such things — I’ve got family and friends to consider.”

I can't stop laughing ooh...The New York Post, reported yesterday that, Randy Phillips, CEO of concert promoterAEG Live, testified about a chat he had with his longtime friend Brenda Richie, who claimed to have talked to a medium who had channeled the spirit of The Gloved One after his 2009 death. In the supernatural tête-á-tête, Jacko’s ghost allegedly absolved Dr. Conrad Murray of any guilt in his death and admitted he “accidentally killed himself,” Phillips said.

“Brenda called me to tell me that she was in communications with Michael either through a medium or directly,” Phillips told jurors about his talk with Richie, the ex-wife of singer Lionel Richie.

“She said Michael told her that it wasn’t Dr. Murray’s fault, that he had accidentally killed himself.”

Brian Panish, a lawyer for Michael Jackson’s family, objected to Phillips’ ghost story, calling it triple hearsay, since Phillips was relaying a chat from Richie, who had heard from a medium, who — allegedly — spoke to a dead Jacko. Remarkably — over the laughter of courtroom spectators — LA County Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos allowed Phillips’ explanation to stand. Phillips’ wacky testimony yesterday was in response to questions about an e-mail he sent on Aug. 18, 2009, implying he believed the medium’s talk with Jacko would prove Murray wasn’t behind his death.

“I think I know what MJ died of and this would exonerate Conrad,” he wrote.

When the e-mail was first brought up Monday, Phillips said he didn’t recall what he had been talking about. But yesterday, he offered up his weird tale from the crypt. Jackson’s family is suing AEG Live, claiming that concert promoters knew the King of Pop was in declining health but did nothing to help him — other than hire Murray. AEG officials insist they had no idea Jackson was in such fragile shape and argue the company shouldn’t be held liable for Murray’s criminal acts.

In an odd coincidence, Jackson’s brothers. Jermaine, Tito, Randy and Marlon, are set to perform at AEG-owned Staples Center in downtown LA later this month during the BET Awards broadcast.On his way out of court yesterday, Jackson family lawyer Kevin Boyle quipped, “I hope the Jackson brothers survive their AEG Live experience.”

Pope Francis Admits That "Gay Lobby" Exists in the Vatican.

CNN gave a reports stating that, Pope Francis said a “gay lobby” exists inside the Vatican, a surprising disclosure from a pope who has already delivered his share of stunners, and a resurrection of church conflicts that had bedeviled his predecessor’s papacy. “In the Curia,” Francis said, referring to Catholicism’s central bureaucracy, “there are holy people. But there is also a stream of corruption.”

“The ‘gay lobby’ is mentioned, and it is true, it is there,” Francis continued. “We need to see what we can do.” Hints that the Holy See contained a network of gay clergy surfaced last year in reports about a series of embarrassing leaks to Italian journalists.

World's Oldest Person Dies at The Age of 116...

According to USA Today, Japan’s Jiroemon Kimura, who had been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living person and the oldest man ever, died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 116. Kimura, of Kyotango, Japan, was born April 19, 1897. Officials in Kyotango said he died in a local hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for pneumonia.

According to Guinness, Kimura was the first man in history to have lived to 116 years old. Kimura became the oldest man ever on Dec. 28, 2012, at the age of 115 years, 253 days, breaking the record set by Christian Mortensen, a Danish immigrant to the United States, whose life spanned from 1882-1998.

The title of oldest living person is now held by another Japanese, 115-year-old Misao Okawa, of Osaka. Okawa, who was born March 5, 1898, is also the world’s oldest living woman.

“Jiroemon Kimura was an exceptional person,” said Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records. “As the only man to have ever lived for 116 years — and the oldest man whose age has been fully authenticated — he has a truly special place in world history.”
